I invite you to ask for Patience

Monday, 1st May, 2017

Happy happy Monday! Hope you all had a great week! I just finished my second transfer! I'm grateful to have the opportunity to be in Bathurst at least one more transfer! Yay! My companion Sister Niu is going to Prairiewood Zone! I am going to miss her so much! I love Bathurst and I can't wait to learn even more during this upcoming transfer! It's going to be great! I can just feel it!

How did you all do with the invitation in allowing our Saviour to heal you? I pray that we each take the time to allow the Saviour to heal us! We all stand in need of healing and He is the one who can do it!

Matching scarves made for us by Sister Boogaard (Couple missionaries in our area). Look at the fog at 8:15am. Yes, we walked to church! Our last Sunday together before transfers
Sister Niu hits her 9 months on Wednesday - So just in case either of us was transferred, I made her a 9 month celebratory pack. Thank you Sister Boogaard for helping me sneak around my companion to get her stuff - It's not easy preparing surprises for your companion but we did it!

Today I would like to talk about patience!
In Preach My Gospel:
"Patience is the capacity to endure delay, trouble, opposition, or suffering without becoming angry, frustrated, or anxious. It is the ability to do God's will and accept his timing. When you are patient, you hold up under pressure and are able to face adversity calmly and hopefully. Patience is related to hope and faith - you must wait for the Lord's promised blessings to be fulfilled.
You need patience in your everyday experiences and relationships. You must be patient with all people, yourself included, as you work to overcome faults and weaknesses."

Patience must be actively sought! It is not something that we can attain if we are not WILLING to ACT! How patient are you? How WILLING are you to WAIT on the Lord for his promised blessings in his timing?

In Colossians 1:10-11, it says:
"That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness."
How many of us are joyful during our times of patience and long suffering? That is something I definitely can improve on!

Patience displays confidence that it is not our will but Heavenly Father's will and plan.
Patience is not idle, apathetic or passive. It brings balance and perspective. We must be WILLING to WAIT for the Lord to instruct us.

I have four points about patience I would like to share!

1) Patience shows our faith in the Lord's plan
2) As we develop patience within ourselves we allow the spiritual man to be in control (instead of the natural man)

In Alma 7:23:
"And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all tings; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive."

I believe that these things listed here are attributes of PATIENCE! And how I long to be more patient!

Patience is obedience prolonged! Or in other words, long-term obedience! My goal is to strive to have prolonged obedience as I face trials, or am in opportunities when I must wait on the Lord! Obedience is the key!

Romans 5:3-4
"And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience;"

3) Patience is ACTION! It must be actively sought! You must act to achieve it! You must do what is right and put in action to get there!

4) Patience is the way to perfection!
Hebrews 10:36
"For ye have need of patience, that after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise." That promise being eternal life!

D&C 67:12-13
"Neither can any natural man abide the presence of God, neither after the carnal mind. Ye are not able to abide the presence of God now, neither the ministering of angels; wherefore, continue in patience until ye are perfected."

Luke 21:19
"In your patience possess ye your souls."

D&C 101:38
"And seek the face of the Lord always, that in patience ye may possess your souls, and ye shall have eternal life"

May we each ASK to acquire this divine attribute of patience and then ACT! Patience overcomes the natural man. By achieving patience we may possess our souls and we may gain the promise of eternal life! This is my invitation to you all this week! I invite you to ask for patience - "the capacity to endure delay, trouble, opposition, or suffering without becoming angry, frustrated, or anxious. It is the ability to do God's will and accept his timing." I know that as we each do this we will be blessed. Those around us will be blessed and we will be in a better state to achieve prolonged obedience! And obedience brings blessings!

I love you all!
